Inter-IIT Report

Water Polo
The Inter IIT Watepolo saga came to an end in the semis for Kgp, for the 5th year in a row. This time though, we started with an unprecedented victory over the defending champions IIT Madras, purported to have been a clearly superior team. This came as a huge morale booster for the Kgp contingent. Going into the semis vs IIT Bombay, the confident team was in for a rude shock when Bombay scored in the last thirty seconds of a well fought out match to turn the score 5-4 in their favour! The semis exit set back the morale of the team it showed up in a not-so-enthusiastic performance in the 3rd-4th playoff which was eventually won by IIT Madras.

IIT Kanpur placed 1st in waterpolo followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Madras placed 3rd.

IIT Bombay and Madras, with 2 state level and 1 state level swimmers respectively justified the “favourites” tag by placing overall 1st and 2nd in the aquatics events. Kgp with bronze in both the 4*100 medley and 4*100 freestyle relays in a couple of fourth positions placed overall 3rd in aquatics. The Kgp girls’ contingent performed extremely well and did not disappoint this time either by winning the aquatics cup, even though they had some stiff competition from IIT Kanpur. Powered by a relay gold and a couple of silvers and bronzes ensured an overall 1st. The medal winners are Amrita Momi (gold, breaststroke), Richa Singh (silver, 100m freestyle; bronze, 50m; silver, backstroke), Sarai Das (silver 50m freestyle; bronze, 100m)

Inter-Hall 6.6
In the Inter Hall 6.6, Mukesh Kumar of LLR got the individual 1st pipping Vikesh Kumar from Nehru just at the post. Sandeep Rawat from Patel came 3rd. The hall positions are:

1st Patel

2nd RP

3rd RK

Open-IIT Round-Up

Open-IIT Basketball saw major upsets with defending Inter-Hall champions RP getting beaten by LLR and Patel on successive days. However, the team to watch out for has been MMM who beat both LLR and Patel and will take on RK in the semis. In the other semi-finals Kgp Kings will play against Patel.

The 6-a-side tournament is still in the league stage with the last few matches delayed due to rains. However, RP and Azad teams have already made it to the semi-final stage.
