*All proposal reviews are based on TSA’s assessment of the proposal document provided by the candidate. We crosscheck all facts mentioned in the proposal and give feedback around three parameters :

  1. Need & Impact of the proposals; we attempt to assess the value of the proposal for the students.
  2. Feasibility; whether the proposal ever see the light of day or not.
  3. Originality; if the proposal been implemented before in some form or another.
The views mentioned in the proposal critiques below are TSA’s alone and are meant for a more holistic sharing of information about the candidates and their ideas. This, we believe, will lead to fairer and more impactful selection of candidates for the various positions of responsibility.*

Proposal I – Inter-IIT refreshments coupons

Originality (⅘) : This idea seems fairly original partly because it seems like an incremental step as opposed to a significant change.

Need and impact (⅗) : The current diet provided after every practice seems sufficient. It’s been thought about and well balanced with the help of a dietician. The need is questionable, but if majority of the Inter IIT players find it as a better suited option, then the candidate should go ahead with it. One would wonder if the Inter – IIT players themselves are aware enough to make good diet choices on their own as opposed to that formulated by a dietician.

Feasibility (3/5) : The bottleneck in the implementation would be bringing all the canteens under the framework of the proposal and once this has been figured out, it should be easy enough to see through. The proposal provided lacks sufficient groundwork by the candidate.

Proposal II – Sports Carnival for Freshers

Originality (⅕) : Holding sports carnivals or variations of the same are recurring proposals. Also, this could be open to all students in the campus, not just the freshers.

Need and impact (⅘) : Even though there are numerous avenues for freshers to get involved in sports, there seems to be a disconnect between Gymkhana’s efforts to reach out to freshers and what they get involved in. This new event, if implemented properly could attract decent attention. Further, events like archery, wall climbing and rollerblading are cool ideas and could provide a new frontier to sports in KGP. But there is a good chance this might just reduce to an evening of scaling MMM rather than something concrete.

Feasibility (3/5) : To arrange a carnival of this magnitude, without clashing with society seminars or any other freshers’ events is quite challenging, as has been observed in the past. Further, how exactly this will attract participation from postgraduate students is not clear from the proposal as numerous efforts in this direction previously have failed to make a considerable impact.

Proposal III – Sports Awareness Workshops

Originality (⅖) : This has been proposed before several times. It is yet to be implemented.

Need and impact (⅖) : Until a few years ago, the undergraduate students who were previously unassociated with any sport picked up interest once they moved on to senior halls. But with the emergence of a strong sporting culture in LBS, they are initiated into sports even in their first year at their hall in a very personal setting. As far as PG and RS communities are concerned, their involvement in such a fest would again be limited in number due to research work and other academic engagements.

Feasibility (⅖) : With frequent complaints from inter IIT players regarding lack of proper coaching in numerous sports, it’s questionable how the candidate proposes to arrange for coaching for newbies.
