As IIT Kharagpur ventures into its diamond jubilee year, celebrations have started everywhere in the campus. Be it convocation or curtain raiser, there has been grandeur associated with every happening in campus. In this year of merriment in the institute, our annual social and cultural fest, Spring Fest has already started its celebration. This year, it is scheduled to happen from 20th to 23rd January, 2012. Ever since its inception in 1959, the fest has grown manifolds and what stands now is one of the largest annual social and cultural fest of the country.
Spring Fest has always been ‘the true spirit of youth’ and encompasses aspirations and enthusiasm of college students across the nation. With a plethora of more than 50 events ranging from varied genres, it provides a platform to the students where they can prove their mettle and caliber. The 4 days of sheer awesomeness and magnificence have definitely become a very important part of those associated with SF. The fierce competitions, uninterrupted entertainment, breath-taking pro-shows, and something to suit everybody is what gives SF its magnificence.
The highlight of this year’s fest is ‘’IIT KHARAGPUR MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE’’ which is SF’s diamond jubilee initiative in association with ‘Debating society, IIT Kharagpur’. It is the first Model United Nations Conference of IIT Kharagpur in collaboration with UNIC for India & Bhutan. It will be a three day conference and will be held from 21st to 23rd January, 2012.The conference will comprise 2 councils- DISEC and G20. Apart from the innovative councils, the confluence of 3 formidable brands – Model United Nations, IIT Kharagpur and Spring Fest, promises to make this a very memorable experience. This initiative makes the 4 day extravaganza of Spring Fest a perfect amalgamation of head-banging rock nights, soothing classical nights, and adds to the intellect quotient of the fest at the same time.
Wildfire, the western rock-band competition is the avenue to witness the best amateurs’ rock bands in the country, set the stage on fire as the competition gets bigger and better. With the applaud Wildfire achieved in 2010, it was taken nation-wide in 2011 with its prelims in 5 major cities across the country. More than 150 bands registered for Wildfire and the total prize money was more than worth 70k.
After receiving huge leverage through Wildfire, Spring Fest is taking Nukkad, the street play competition nationwide. The event will be held in Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh. Seeing the quality and quantity of participation coming down to IIT Kharagpur till last year for SF, we expect to see huge participation in Nukkad in all these cities. With our social cause being Child Upliftment this year, the event will create awareness about the social cause and help in gathering masses for this cause.
Spring Fest 2011 was an incarnation of dreams. The enthusiasm of the team behind it was simply unimaginable. With everything falling perfectly in place, Spring Fest’11 was one of the best editions of SF ever and this year, team Spring Fest 2012 hopes to take it to bigger heights.
