Two best delegates. Three high commendations. Best position paper. Two best journalists. Eight awards in all for a delegation of eleven people. It would be a gross understatement to say KGP dominated the show at NIT Durgapur’s second Model United Nations Conference, organised as part of its cultural fest “Verve”.
MUN conferences, as a competitive form of public speaking, is still evolving in Kharagpur, but with the Debating Society organising IIT Kharagpur’s maiden MUN conference next January in association with Spring Fest, NITMUN’11 proved to be an ideal preparatory stage. Despite the odds (missed trains, lost money, a broken laptop) DebSoc members did what they are best at. Debate and deliberate.
NITMUN had four councils this year and Kharagpur was victorious in each of them, winning not only as delegates but as journalists as well. Add to that the opportunity to interact with some of the country’s best speakers and leaders of tomorrow, the delegation returned an enriched lot.
With NIT Durgapur conquered and IIT Kanpur, Delhi University and NLS Bangalore to follow, MUN has arrived. And its here to stay.
