Mr Anshuman Vatsyayan, Vice President of Derivates Technology at Deutsche Bank delivered an outstanding guest lecture on “Careers in Investment Banking & Finance for IITians” at the Kalidas Auditorium on Saturday. The event was organised by the Alumni Cell and served as a prelude to the 9th Annual Alumni Meet in January 2012. Himself an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur from the Instrumentation Engineering batch of ’96 and later IIM Calcutta, Mr Vatsyayan expertly guided a thoroughly interactive session with a captivated audience spanning all batches and specializations.
Starting with an introduction to finance and its relevance in modern society, the lecture covered various domains of the financial services industry and the roles it offers, weighing their relative merits and disadvantages. All in all, the discussion presented an articulate “big picture,” invoking intelligent questions from the students. Mr Vatsyayan, on his part, kept throwing in interesting bits of trivia and candid insights from his rich experience in the investment banking industry. In the absence of career fairs and counselling sessions on campus, one certainly looks forward to more such sessions in the future.
