About Us
The Scholars’ Avenue is the independent student-run campus newspaper of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Now in its fifth year, copies of The Scholars’ Avenue are now delivered to over 4000 students on campus and soft copies are mailed to all the faculty and 8,000 odd alumni. The team is drawn entirely from among the students of the institute, and its mission is to report and analyze events that affect the campus, and to be the voice of the IIT Kharagpur student community. We are a non-profit organization supported by sponsorships (and donations); independent of the administration of IIT Kharagpur.
Each of our issues is a juxtaposition of the informational, the technical and the creative. We report campus events and happenings, function as a public interface between students and the administration, summarize technical advancements taking shape on campus and not the least, print the funnies. Aiming to make this original content accessible to a readership outside Kharagpur, we will soon be uploading our articles in the following categories (please check back later):
- Editorials : Read our editors’ take on the successive issues that have affected IIT Kharagpur’s campus in the recent past.
- National Issues : Learn how the future leaders and citizens of India perceive the world around them and the events in it.

Dear Editorial Team,
It was a while that I got myself updated with latest on KGP. Nitin Basant was/is a dear Jr who did this personally updated at many occassions for a while.
Anyways, It was quite pleasing to see that good work is going and importantly is getting much better with each publication.
This is something that I missed among all content:
– Current hall standing in various GCs
Also I would like to give a food for thought on you most recent poll going on, “Is it possible to have fair and “pactless” elections in Kgp?”.
It is usually seen as a very bad thing to have pacts and than force students to vote for particular cnadidate rather have the rule of democracy and a lot more … ( I am sure all in -ve direction)
I wwould like the editorial team to ponder on these few points and may be come up with an article. (My sincere apology, I am not very good a writing otherwise would love to write and submit one)
Here are issues around which KGP election can be seen:
– Pacts are like a national party, a combination of regional parties. As by law these regional party can not combine to make one national party.
– Forced voting is much like what we see in Parliament where MPs abide to the decision of Party mandate rather than individual thinking. In case of defiance, they even face expulsion.
– Pacts help in reducing randomization with fewer, focused and screened candidates.
I am sure these things does not get applied in true sense, but what is more important is see the nature of pact as a part of system rather than just forced entity. Post that ensuring how to improve upon this system.
I am sure that team is about to handover the charge and many other important activities are lined in next 4 weeks before end sem hits on.
Still, if this idea gets a place in scholaravenue, do drop me a line. I will be very happy to read through it.
Good Luck Team !!

Dear Editorial Team,
It is very much pleasing to see that your services; updating the kgpian with the latest developments inside the campus, discussions and interviews on relevant issues, taking up issues for the betterment of the students, etc., are being by all (including the teachers). Besides that, importantly, it is getting much better with each publication. Congrats to each of you.
However, there is something that I missed among the contents:
A small column dedicated for enlightening the youth on the need of saving environmental resources.
None of us cares for it, thinking that it is never going to affect us. But the studies says that, after 20-25 years, with an annual salary package of 15 lakhs, it is not enough to buy the required amount of pure drinking water and oxygen (yes for breathing) for a single person, leave about the family. Our generation is going to face a big disaster, which cannot be probably stopped but may be delayed (if we co-operate). I hope that ‘Scholarsavenue’ will take up this issue with its total seriousness.
I can also send you some educating slides with pictures and captions regarding the same.
Best wishes for all your future efforts
