On 4th and 5th of November, 2012, IIT Kharagpur bore witness to Youth To Business 2.0, an IIT Kharagpur initiative. A two day forum, targeted to acquaint the youth with organizational behaviour and skills of Business Management, it brought us face-to-face with eminent personalities who have proved their mettle in different field of corporate and business affairs.
On the red letter day, IIT Kharagpur heralded Aparajita Agrawal, Co-founder and Director, Intellecap, an eight-years-old business initiative. Recounting her own experiences, she focused on business initiatives and start-up leadership. The session was informative and professional, though it was reported to have lacked in interaction.
Later that day, Nisigandha Bhuyan, professor, IIM Calcutta guided our students through the tactics and strategies of business etiquette. An attempt was made to link business with ethics, considered poles apart in the modern scenario. The session was termed to be interactive in spite of the lukewarm response.
The second day left the Kalidas auditorium jam-packed with audience gaping spell-bound at Sam Cawthorn, who proved to be the Pied-piper of the entire show. A thought leader and CEO of Empowering Enterprises, the jewel of his achievements is the Young Austrialian of the Year award for 2009, Australia’s the highest civilian honour. The lecture centered on resilience and positive psychology echoing the magic words “Bounce Forward”. The message was clear-“Live life to the fullest”. ‘Amazing’, ’mind-blowing’, ‘awesome’ were some of the adjectives attributed to it by the people this writer has spoken to.
On the whole, Youth To Business 2.0 has come a long way, far more opulent than its previous version.
