I propose to bring Kshitij under the patronage of UNESCO.
Pros : If implemented, UNESCO patronage would lend more credibility to the fest which could potentially result in better participation, higher quality events and improved sponsorship. KTJ might have to set open and more social goals (than present) as UNESCO stresses on values which benefits the society at large
Cons : UNESCO’s patronage granting mechanism is more or less a blackbox. While IITB has set a precedent here with UNESCO patronage for its Techfest, there is scope for our proposal to be rejected in spite of good intentions.
I propose to introduce events in Open IIT specifically for Post Graduate students to increase their participation in the Technology General Championship.
Pros : More participation of PG students in campus activities has been on our wishlist for a long time. Apart from raising the quality of submissions with their higher experience, it also makes sense to involve a sizable chunk of the campus population in our activities.
Cons : Currently only 3 events have been proposed, and allocation of just Rs.100 as the budget of a two-stage OpenSoft competition and budgets of around Rs.1,100 for the other two events makes us wary if this has been properly thought over.
I propose to take an initiative to introduce venture capitalists and angel funders to invest in any of the feasible product for the event Product Design of Technology General Championship.
Pros : Thanks to the brand-name that our institution commands, we think venture capitalists/angel funders would be more than eager to participate in this venture, especially as there is no cost involved from their side. Hence there is a good chance of actual implementation.
Cons : As soon as a marketing angle is brought into a product design competition, students can be expected to get into a mindset where they stop thinking of building futuristic and innovative (but risky) ideas. We think this beats the spirit of the Product design competition itself in a sense. Moreover, we already have the Ad-design event in TechGC which is all about pitching/marketing your idea to an established industry.
