Proposal 1: To restructure the open-IIT system in sports
Pros:
There will definitely be a marked increase in participation in the mentioned sports. More freshers and PG can be accommodated in the inter-IIT scheme of things with this tournament as well. Players will also get much needed practice and get to compete in a tournament, thus boosting inter-IIT and Shaurya preparations.
Cons:
The biggest problem with the proposed tournament is its scheduling. Tightly sandwiched between Mid semester examinations and Shaurya, a week is simply not enough to conduct six professional matches.
The time allocated for practice is in September first week while the tournament takes place in last week of October: there is no sync and thus the quality of these matches is highly questionable.
Since the power to choose team members has been given to captains, it leaves a lot of scope for hall-politics.
Seniors may not want to play in this tournament, and as it is not easy to leave them out of the team either owing to their experience, quality of the tournament may again be compromised.
Proposal 2
I propose to setup a Rehabilitation Gym,which has a full complement of physical therapist to assist our sportsperson maximise their abilities and foster a health re-integration into the sports community.
Pros:
A brilliant proposal as it highlights the fact that BC Roy is incapable of handling sports related injuries. One of the main reasons of poor performance of the inter-IIT contingent was due to injuries and lack of expert advice.
It will help a sportsman to stay fit and improve his stamina. Even today, the Gym is not accessible to many sportsmen, even Inter-IIT probables. By making the Gym accessible to them, special fitness regimes such as weight training can be realistically adopted.
Cons:
The Gymnasium is already overused. No schedule for this rehabilitation gym has been proposed, and doubts persist as to whether it will not encroach on the routine of those Gym users who do not play sports.
Regarding the physiotherapist, it has not been clarified where will such a qualified doctor be recruited from and on what pay scale.
