Update on Flyover Construction

The flyover outside campus being constructed by the mutual collaboration of IIT (25%), Railways (37.5%) and the Public Works Department, State Government (37.5%) has been kept on the back burner yet again. The project set off with the the grant of a letter of acceptance in February 2009 which marked the commencement of the construction work. However, the earlier contractor’s tenure was terminated on the grounds of inadequate performance and the project reached an impasse. Re-tendering was done and the new incumbent contractor quoted figures that were disapproved by the authorities. The deadline that had been set at June 2011 relying on the diligence of the new contractor requires a further extension as a fresh request for tender is scheduled in January 2011. Until then, construction work has been put on hold.
