Inter-Hall Product Design

UPDATE 3/11/09 : As per the decision of the TSG President in the Standing Committee Appeal filed by NH, the first position has now been reverted to Nehru Hall.
New standings are as follows:
- Gold- NH
- Silver – RP Hall
- Bronze – MS Hall
The following was reported on Oct 25, 2009:
The results of the inter-hall product design competition are :-
- Gold- RP Hall
- Silver – MS Hall
- Bronze – LLR Hall
The revised standings are on account of the decision taken during the sub-committee meeting held on 26th October. The gold winning team (Nehru Hall) was disqualified on the grounds of violation of a rule that forbids people other than the presentation team to speak during the Q n A round.
The circumstances under which such a rule found its way into the rule books are beyond our knowledge, but it would have definitely been with the consent of all the Halls of Residence. One might argue that since everyone was aware of such a rule, its enforcement by the organizers was only justified. But yes, every time an incident like this occurs, we are forced to look at ourselves and ask how far from the spirit of the competition we are.

please see that the benefit of the decision is to LLR ,who was shifted to bronze ,and RP hall who got gold . The general secretaries technology of TSG belong to these two halls.
I thought scholav was supposed to be neutral. Unfortunately it seems since some of its senior members belong to halls that have lost out due to the decision, we are getting a partial view of the events.
Cant trust you guys anymore !
and pj being a senior schol av member, next time before posting such a serious allegation on your website that G Secs of gymkhana have been involved in foul play at least think twice…
i am from RP hall. Any yes this s**ks. bad luck for NH.
thats how KGP life is.
LOL
s**t.
and ya forgot to mention the secretary is from MS hall but i m sure its jus a coincidence.
Many a times such coincidences happen, students often tend to blame the oragnisers for being biased towards their halls of residence… but then its the duty of the organisers to make sure that the event is being conducted according to the rules and they have the responsibility of imposing such rules on halls who have won, bcoz those who have not ,wud not make a difference anyway.Lets set examples G secs that even though you guys wud be blamed for being biased and all that shitty p words but rules even with their remotest chances of getting relevance shud be imposed.
yo patty yo deepak!!
secy is nt frm ms hall… he is frm hjb….
guys,secy is from RP
i am from LLR, and yet this decision is not about any halls getting benefit or not.
its about keeping up with the rules, however screwed they may be. thats kgp and thats what we learn here, to live by the rules, be it constitution or be it gymkhana rulebook.
its sad s’av is engaging in such a biased journalism. not a long time ago, there was a brouhaha over which team won the cricket semifinal or something. the teams in reference were “coincidentally” RP and LLR again, and the secy’s or gsec’s were from one of the halls.
yet over some highly gnarled scoring system the decisions were made “according to rulebook”. which everyone felt was “against the spirit and ethos of sportsmanship” once again. i fail to locate any articles from s’av on this issue.
i do not know if the above insinuation of the reporting being biased because the s’av team members belong to one of the “offended” halls is true or not, but it would be best for the scholsav editorial team to keep such opinions curtailed which could blemish such a wonderfully managed student magazine.
this is really worst thing
poltu of rp & llr is worst from their part
gsecs are worst without any ratioal thinking
yeah thanks for the correction ‘watever’. Yes, two General secretaries from RP and LLR, 2 out of 3 secretaries(selected by the G secs.) from RP and LLR and the 3rd being from HJB……lucky coincidences keep happening in Kgp.
What are the new standings you said? RP -1st, MS- 2nd and LLR -3rd?
Unfortunate decision. what is a competition without the spirit of competition?
Every rule in the Tech GC rulebook has a specific reason behind it. The rule in discussion was formulated in order to ensure that once a judge asks a question, it is answered by the people who have been designated to present the product. And so that 6 people from the back row do not start shouting their explanations simultaneously (This was a situation which had infuriated the judges in the past). The rules however do not forbid the presenting team to ask his other teammates in the room and explain the same to the judge. In fact, for that very reason the other 6 members are allowed inside the room.
The sad thing about the GC is, most of us are more focussed on immediate disqualification rather than reconciliation whenever a rule is broken. If I remember correctly, the rule book never states ‘what if’ certain rules are broken (unlike rules regarding disqualification in drams, which are full-proof) . These rules are too hard to quantify and hence were left totally open to the wisdom of the organizers and the discretion of the judges.
If we are so inclined towards following events ‘by-the-book’, I would request the upcoming rule-makers to make the rules even more human-discretion-proof in future.
It is very sad that there are people here who think that just going by the rule book is what kgp life is all about. Every rule has a spirit behind it for which it is made and it is the duty as well as responsibility of the Gymkhana representatives which we choose to ensure. This is not only here but anywhere in practical life.
We must abide and respect the post of representatives as they have been chosen by no other than us. They have been given authenticity to decide upon situation when there is confusion about any rule, but it is again their part to see whether the spirit of the rule is followed or not.
If the people sitting at these positions themselves deviate from the true meaning for which the rule was made, then could not be any unfortunate situation than this. The whole purpose of the system is lost and their responsibilities remains unfulfilled. In that case, the there will no meaning of the competition if there is a little doubt on the organisation of the events. It will lose its value.
I don’t agree that this is how it has always gone and and should go. Only talent and excellence should be regarded and if any point of time this gets affected by the organisers themselves, it simply shows that the representatives are no longer respecting the post on which they are.
Once the faith is lost in events , there is no meaning of the competition and in coming time participating in these events and winning is no value.
i dont kno who rationale is but talks sense and yet he/she is afraid to reveal his/her identity.I was involved in tech gc for five yrs. Till my fourth yr we fought hard, tried to outwit the other hall in rules (judges
) and congratulated the winner after the event was over but alas things got screwed due to short sighted people. I pity you guys for you will never be able to truely respect yr opponents or earn the respect of yr opponents. You guys will never know what it is to win a gc during the event for you all will be busy trying to disqualify the others.
people involved in tech GC especially gymkhana gsecs could not able see the technical aspect and spirit of a rule and they are boasting about the spirit of GC and spirit of competition. In the very first event they showed their indebtedness to their hall which made them gsecs and definitely raised question on the integrity of gymkhana which is supposed to be a student body!
the reason for which the given hall is disqualified is totally a good matter for discussion in sub com but the matter should have not been reached to president.
yes himangshu says right that we fought hard to outwit other halls in rules but not in spirit.every hall did this but such kind of stand of a gymakhana representative is not expected.
Rules are to be followed in spirits and not words…
and my friends who are so adamant about following by the book, I would like to ask them how much they abide by the other rules that are prevalent in the campus.
Come’on, hall is just a petty part of our life , just 3-4 years and then you are gone, just think how our character get degraded by indulging in such humiliating and ridiculous scenarios. Think guys…it goes much beyond the stupid thing called “hall”, think for life,….think!!!
I thnk ppl at kgp lack sumthn which is very imp for evryone 2 learn..Sportsmanship..be a sport..inspite of braggin out a on SILLY (very very silly) mistake..y cant u wrk on ur submission..n put sum more tim into it..or from next time..forget ur submissions n start findin which hall has done mistakes, keep d rule buk in ur hand..
The two post that follows mine reflects what ails the gymkhana today. It is very easy to blame one single guy for an incident but why are you all ignoring your own mistakes. how can someone with an iota of respect to the effort put in for an event agree on a rule for disqualification. The people criticizing the g sec today might as well have used this stupid disqualification rules had the circumstance been to their advantage. Common tell me, if the complaint was against RP, max the g sec could have done was delay the matter. Bottom line is disqualification rules are stupid. i participated in 4 gc’s with one disqualification where in one of the participant was not a registered student. This incident was not caught by the participants of tech gc but the same participant was involved in an event of soc cult gc wherein the hall was disqualified and hence matter spilled to tech gc. My fifth year was hell, I would not elaborate on the matter. Get a break !! Get rid of disqualification rules. Remember your opponent also probably worked hard for the event
correction : The two post that follows mine reflects
i meant the post apologies to ss whosoever it is
Hello all
well the pi gold is has been given back to Nehru hall by the president gymkhana. And people out here had nice discussions on ethics but no one dared to go into details of this incident. I will tell you why
1.)it was not an answer from a participant but a enthusiastic yes at the end of the ppt,
2.)If any thing said by anyone rather than presenters and judges inside the cic studio is an annswer than each and every presentation had many because if you see the videos during every presentation people inside the room where chitchatting in the back which would have lead to 9 disqualification and zero winners.
3)Now coming back to ethics Rule was made(if i remember correctly) because it had happend in past that when participants saw their participant getting their b@@ts kicked by judges they spoke out of turn to save them which was not justified and not for enthusiastic yes
4)Halls have no ethics while participating and i have witnessed it all as far as tech GC is considered so is there even a point discussing ethics
and ya to all those schols av admins plz update the result as fast as you updated the last one
grow up kgp junta !!!!!
where did all those su**ers go now???
