Prof. R. K. BrahmaProfessor R.K. Brahma of the Mechanical Engineering Department, passed away on the 9th of October, 2009 due to a stroke.

He shall, however, live on in our hearts and our memories.

Here’s what his colleagues had to say about him:

“Professor R. K. Brahma was a great human being with great sense of humour and sincerity at the same time. I pray to God that his soul rests in peace.”

“The sad demise of Prof. Brahma has created a vacuum in the department which cannot be easily filled up. For many students, he was a friend, philosopher and guide. For many of us, he was an elder brother who was sure give the right kind of protection, heartiest encouragement and the most securing consolation and moral boost up at the hour of need.”

I did not get the opportunity to be in his classes but I saw him interacting with my batchmates. He was very friendly with his students. It was nice to listen to him.

May his soul rest in peace. May God give enough strength to his family members.

  7. I wasn’t his student and never sat in his classes. He was my warden in RP. He had amazing sense of humor and he was always in a mood for humor. He has left us and departed but he will survive in our hearts. It’s extremely difficult to find words to express the feelings of loss. If I am to draw one lessons from his life it would be ‘Live in the present and contribute to your society in meaningful way’.

I simply pray for his peaceful journey! May God give strength to his bereaved family. Hari Om…

Its really sad news. He was the warden of RP Hall when I was at Kgp. He used to stand at security counter with hall tickets before the mid sem and end sem exams to make sure that each student gets the hall ticket. He was a remarkable man and I can still remembers some of his “one liners” that he used while addressing students.

Untimely demise has certainly created a void which will be hard to bridge. With a terrific sense of humor, he was a great human being, guide and mentor. May his soul rest in peace.

Prof. Brahma was a very caring professor. He was extremely friendly towards his students. Everyone from student to staff to junior faculty was like a son or younger brother to him. He would address them as “tui” (instead of tumi or aapni). I had the chance tp meet him a few times after graduation, last being in 2008. He used to get very happy seeing his former students. Brahma-sir will be missd by one and all on campus.

A great guide and always encouraging. Things would never be the same at Mech@KGP without he being around.

I am aggrieved on hearing this. He was a person with a large heart and no one who interacted with him ever missed his warmth. He often lectured upon doing something for the country/ helping the poor.
It is a great loss for the KGP community.
May his soul rest in peace.
