Editorial : The Year Ahead
It’s a new year for all of us, with final years looking around wondering whether they will actually miss this place when they leave a year from now, and first years wondering if they’ll find something to miss at all in these rustic surroundings. Everyone has come back after their summers to find changed halls, even longer lines in the mess (if that was even possible), and in some cases an entirely new coat of paint (some of the shades havent gone down well with the general populace though). Those of us who will leave at the end of this year will accept that a lot of things have changed, not always for the better, and those standing at the throes of a new life will know that the place they leave four-odd years from now will definitely not be the place that they came into.
There have been lots of things to look back to that have happened over the past year. First years were reintroduced into senior halls. One of the stalwarts of the KGP calendar, Illu, was no more. The campus united against measures that were seen as curbing our freedom, which many consider to be the essence of KGP. The global economic crisis contributed to a muted campus placement session. The spring semester began with a bang as Spring Fest and Kshitij attempted to outdo themselves in scale. Then followed a series of unfortunate events, the likes of which the campus has not witnessed in a long time. Through it all, The Scholars’ Avenue has been the mouthpiece of campus views and attempted to bridge the gap between students, alumni and the administration. This new academic year we aim to continue what we have been doing and to do it even better. Keeping the populace abreast of happenings and student issues on campus will be one of our prime goals. To start off, in this issue we highlight the progress on the upgradation of medical facilities in campus and the ongoing addition of rooms to the senior halls.
But our success as a newspaper will depend, in great measure, on how much our readers contribute to us. A newspaper can only claim to justify its existence if it pushes its readers to think and opine. If you have anything that you want to speak about, or something happening on campus that you feel we have missed out on, please drop us an email. Our website www.scholarsavenue.org has a new look as of last semester and a new addition is the campus events calendar. Keep an eye on it for exciting offers from our sponsors. Newbies to the campus be sure to check our archives for old issues to get a feel of what the campus is all about.
Here’s to a wonderful year in KGP!
