I promise..
Gymkhana elections (or the lack of it) these year have left most of Kgp clueless about who their representatives are, and what they propose to do this year. Scholars’ Avenue resolved to remedy this by bringing you the proposals, straight from the horses’ mouths.
This simple task turned out to be much more complicated than we had expected. Most office holders, perhaps due to the nature of their selection this year, showed unprecedented lack of preparedness for the post – several seemed to have no proposals at all when Scholars’ Avenue initially approached them, asking instead for a few days’ time to frame them.
Finally, after much effort, we have for you the list of gymkhana office bearers’ proposals (as many as we could get anyway):
Deepak Rathee, the elected VP Gymkhana, proposes to have specialized counseling for first year students in order to understand their problems. He plans to set up vending machines serving tea, coffee, energy drinks at various vantage points including departments and halls and also make branded PCs and laptops available at subsidized rates.
“I would like to add more spice to the events in SF” says Arjit Gautam, our GSec Soc-n-cult Gymkhana. He plans to start a competition during the next semester, wherein KGP students will be asked to send in there ideas, regarding new events that can be conducted during SF. He has also proposed to start a Fine Arts Club to help interested students in getting accustomed to Photoshop, Flash and other such tools and Fine Arts skills like canvassing etc
Siddhartha Singh strongly believes in the institution “action speaks more than words” and as such has not yet decided upon his proposals. We hope this abeyance shall not continue during his tenure as the General Secretary, Social and Cultural activities, Gymkhana.
Gaurav Taneja proposed a weightlifting coach during the time of the Inter-IIT practices. He plans to introduce Volleyball for Women in NSO in accordance with the introduction of the same in Inter-IIT’s from next year. He would ensure availability of medical kits in all Inter-Halls to provide instant medical assistance, and to decrease the pressure on BC Roy. Also, he wanted to increase the number of outings the teams representing the institute have. As we do not go anywhere except the Inter-IIT’s, he proposes to include more inter-college sports events in the Kgp player’s itinerary.
Indrajit Mal proposes to start NSO table tennis for girls and boys from the next batch onwards. He intends to build a gym near TSC. He would also like to get a coach for water polo, but this matter needs to be discussed with the respective PTI – something he couldn’t do in the short time that Scholars’ Avenue gave him to come up with proposals.Shuvo Banerjee propose to start a few more department-specific events in Kshitij. Aniket and Shuvo plan to start a set of new events outside the G.C., Freshers as well as Open IIT, like Freshers’ Quiz Week (which would include a Biz Quiz, a TechQuiz and a General Quiz), Freshers’ Maths Olympiad, Freshers’ Ad Designing Competition, Open IIT Biz Quiz and Open IIT Ad Designing Competition.
